About us
WS Chang is a professor by training and a writer by necessity. As an academic, he has published over 100 journal articles, but he always wanted to be a novelist—ever since he was 18. He didn’t have the nerve to put his ideas to paper until he started a project with his son, E Chang, resulting in his debut novel: The 7th Disciple: Time Witness.
Originally from Taiwan, he and his wife have lived in Kyoto, Bath, and Sheffield before settling in Grantham, UK—a place more complex than its reputation suggests. The places he’s lived inevitably find their way into his writing. His hometown, for instance, is recast as the fictitious British town of Pennant-on-the-Hill. Experiences, people, and setbacks—all become seeds for his stories.
E Chang was born in Bath, UK, and is now a student at King’s School in Grantham—a grammar school best known for its most famous pupil, Isaac Newton. Still at school, he has shown an early knack for writing, contributing to The 7th Disciple: Time Witness as co-author and critic. He balances writing with a practical love for sports and music.
